Guadalupe County Redistricting Upset 9/2011

Despite the request from several City Leaders of the western portion of the County to support Map 6b, the commissioners voted 4 to 1 for the alternative map 8b, led by Commissioner Cope. Commissioner Wolverton being the "no" vote. This vote was also against the recommendation of the committee that was tasked to complete this process. These communities, which comprise of Selma, Schertz, and Cibolo, seemed to be very disappointed in the decision made by the Commissioners. Cibolo and Schertz dominates the growth factor of Guadalupe County, seeing record growth for the past 8 years. As one leader expressed his great discontent of the County continuing to ignore the driving growth and revenue force for the county, the decision was still made to ignore the pleas.

The decision will have an impact on these communities for the next 10 years. Cibolo and Schertz both growing at their own fast pace, though with great similarities still have their great differences in style. For those reasons, the division created by map 8b for each City's voting block seemingly bring great concerns to these community leaders of the western portion of Guadalupe County.
